To create a virtual flythrough,
EA Sports needed to shoot multiple camera angles of athletes simultaneously, syncing with hi-speed strobes, as well as full 360 degree panoramic sequences. To accomplish this, Blast Digital developed special workflow and technical processes that could be set up quickly, but precisely using a combination of laser levels, laser measuring devices, and panoramic heads. Custom camera functions and special remote trigger delay settings were tested and implemented for perfect synchronization.

Shooting an image library requires speed, flexibility, and above all, organization. When shooting for the impending release of the Microsoft KIN mobile phone, multiple locations and cameras were implemented to give Microsoft the range & variation of images that would be needed. This resulted in a shot count of over 7000 images per day! Coordination was vital for efficient processing across multiples workstations, and for easy, expedient review by Microsoft. In spite of the number of images, all were categorized, processed & delivered by the morning after the shoot.

Capturing rapid movement for still photos is an inherent challenge. But by planning the appropriate cameras, lighting, and digital hardware, we were able to keep up with the exercise routines of Drew Brees (Super Bowl winning NFL quarterback) using the TRX. By specifying the appropriate high-speed 35mm cameras, the fastest Profoto strobe equipment, and the fastest laptop with a RAID SSD, we were able to capture images (tethered) at 10 frames per second.

Beauty and fashion require meticulous precision. So Blast Digital worked with both the client and photographer to monitor shots in real time using color calibrated tethered capture. DIgital techs constantly monitored highlights and exposure, making micro adjustments on the fly through wireless strobe control systems, without ever interrupting the photographer. File naming conventions were established before the shoot to allow rapid, structured image review and approval after the shoot.
